The Four branches of PC FREE
1. Development
For the athletes 13 and younger, this group trains one or two days a week and is encouraged to also sign up for night ski training. The Development Team focuses on basic turning techniques and familiarizes the athlete with catching air and learning to jib rails. The Development Team skis the whole mountain and the smaller parks with emphasis on fun. As the athletes bounce back and forth within all our focus groups (freeride, moguls and big mountain), they become well rounded in all mountain skiing and learn what our upper level programs have to offer. Once they have perfected carving skills, air awareness and want to take it to a competitive level, we will move the athlete to the specific focus group of their choice.
2. Halfpipe/Freeride Team
This focus group is a designed for the athlete that wants to focus on the halfpipe and terrain park. Intermountain and USSA have put forth a lot of effort to host many local halfpipe and slopestyle competitions. With certified coaches, athletes will emphasize their time on improving skills on rails, tabletops, gaps, and the halfpipe. Whether the athlete chooses to compete or not, this team will increase your air awareness and overall skill in and out of the terrain park.
3. Mogul Team
This focus group is designed for the athlete that wants to perfect their mogul skiing or focus on competing in mogul and dual mogul competitions. PC FREE is one of the biggest and best moguls programs in the United States. We have helped put 5 athletes in the past five years onto the US Ski Team. We focus on carving skills, body stance, pole plants, vision and then how to take flight in the moguls and land safely.
4. Big Mountain Team
Last year this focus group was a great success. The group focuses on skiing the whole mountain. From top to bottom the athlete will learn how to read lines, weather, snow patterns, to launch big drops, and end up with the ability to ski any peak nonstop. This team will get the younger athletes ready for competition. For the older athlete it is a way to learn the skills needed to compete with the big boys. Also the team will get the opportunity to learn avalanche safety and what is needed to survive in the backcountry. This program is also good for the athlete who is looking into becoming a ski patrol. For those interested in competition, the IFSA (International Free Skiing Association) has created the Junior Freeskiing Tour for ages 12-14 and 15-17. The Big Mountain Team will prepare the athlete to compete on a national level, while educating them on how to become a strong and smart Big Mountain skier.
“The creation of the JFT will help legitimize junior athletes’ involvement in the sport of freeskiing and help them prepare for the Freeskiing World Tour. There is no doubt the JFT will be the breeding ground of future freeskiing stars and heavy hitters of the big screen.” Jim Jack president IFSA
